Growing Back Your Hair with PRP Therapy

August 7, 2019

Let’s face it. Hair is a priority. Healthy-looking and plenty of it, hair is included in an overall perception of beauty. It’s cultural, in that respect. A good head of hair frames the face and sets the stage for a person’s other features, giving borders to the playing field of attraction and appeal.

The very resourcefulness people have applied to restoring their hair, once they’ve lost it, is evidence of the priority we place on hair. Fortunately, those resourceful measures have improved. Today, there are a variety of non-surgical options for restoring hairline, coverage, and thickness. At Dermatology Consultants, we can help you select from carefully curated alternatives to discover the hair restoration technique that’s right for you.

Particularly effective for many patients is PRP, or Platelet Rich Plasma injection therapy. A more-targeted approach compared to topical applications, PRP targets the base of the hair follicle and still brings with it the advantages of a non-surgical approach, including no downtime. Unlike early transplant techniques, there is no period of time when the solution looks worse than the problem.

How PRP Works

Platelet Rich Plasma injection therapy begins with your body’s own blood supply. The liquid part of blood is plasma, and it’s designed to carry white blood cells and platelets. Those platelets aid the body’s ongoing process of growth, replenishment, and healing. The growth factors carried by platelets signal other cells to function – replenishing skin cells for example. In PRP, those platelets are concentrated and injected to help stimulate hair follicle activity and promote new hair growth.

The process of PRP involves drawing a tube of your own blood and extracting that special serum of your own growth-giving platelets, which is then injected into areas of hair thinning and loss. Hair follicles that have taken a vacation can be stimulated to get back in action. The process is precise, placing an injection about every half-inch of thinning hair. Typically, a treatment takes about a half-hour or less.

With injectables enjoying long-standing and wide popularity for relaxing and volumizing the skin, this injectable approach to hair restoration may feel familiar, and it’s rapidly gaining popularity, experience, and patient satisfaction.

Our mission at Dermatology Consultants is to help you experience the satisfaction of seeing your own goals come to life. When you feel your best, you look your best, and a restored hairline may be a big contributor to that experience. If the advantages of PRP injection therapy sound good to you, let’s get together and have a look at the options. Just contact one of our three locations to get started.
