Treat Acne from the Inside Out

November 19, 2020

Anyone who has ever had acne knows that it’s more than skin deep – serious skin conditions and acne alike can have both mental and emotional effects. So, it would stand to reason that there is a direct link between how we look on the outside and how we feel on the inside. When you compound that with a year that has been anything but calm and relaxing, it becomes abundantly clear that maintaining a pulse on our physical and mental health is critical now more than ever.

Getting to the Root of the Problem

Acne is the most common skin condition in the United States, affecting up to 50 million Americans annually. 1 It impacts men, women, and children from adolescence well into adulthood. It can surface for a variety of reasons stemming from poor diet, to lack of sleep, to high stress and the list goes on.

As dermatologists, we understand that inflammatory skin disorders – like acne, rosacea, psoriasis and eczema – are often heightened at times of stress. In June, the CDC released a study showing that 41% of Americans were experiencing a significant increase in mental anguish this year compared to previous years.

So how do we combat this?

At Dermatology Consultants, we approach our patients holistically, taking into consideration both their mental and physical health. And because we all experience stress differently, no two treatment plans are ever identical.

That said, there are some universal best practices we can all follow to take the first steps toward good physical health:

  1. Get at least 8 hours of sleep every night
  2. Exercise on average 4 days or more each week
  3. Eat a healthy and well-balanced diet
  4. Wash your face
  5. Wear sunscreen

While these are not cure-alls, we believe good physical health is an important step towards good mental health.

Take Action with Treatment

The good news is that when we combine these best practices with the right products and procedures, most forms of acne are easily treatable. At Dermatology Consultants, we offer a wide array of top tier acne-fighting treatments that are designed to get you back to looking and feeling your best. Some of our recommended in-house procedures include:

  • BBL Clear
  • Dermalinfusion
  • Intraceutical Clarity
  • Microneedling
  • Chemical Peels
  • Acne Facial
  • Hydrafacial
  • Frozen C

Additionally, Sebacia, one of our newest acne treatments, targets the main source of breakouts – excess oil. It uses gold microparticles (yes, real gold) and a laser light to shrink and reduce the oil produced by the Sebaceous gland. Thus, targeting the root cause of acne and treating skin from the inside out. With no recovery time, patients are ready to resume daily activities immediately after the procedure.

Treatments are a great option to get your acne under control, but maintaining your skin goes beyond office visits. A few of our go-to product recommendations to combat breakouts from home include Revision Skincare Papaya Enzyme Cleanser, Revision Skincare Black Mask, ZoSkin Complexion Renewal Pads, Revision Skincare Retinol Complete, Replenix Treat Pads, and the BFF Mask.

There’s no question that 2020 has been a difficult year – and though we’ve had to be physically distant, we are all in this together. Let us help you take on the holidays with clear skin. Give us a call today to schedule your complimentary consultation with our board-certified dermatologists and aestheticians to help determine which treatment is best for you.
