Darker skin has higher levels of melanin, a natural pigment that gives your skin and hair its color. Skin conditions, such as acne, scars, keloids, melasma, vitiligo, eczema or other rashes may result in subsequent hyperpigmentation and present very differently in skin of color.  Our Dermatologists, Physician Assistants and Aestheticians are experts in treating skin, hair and nails of all skin types effectively and safely. We also provide aesthetic and cosmetic solutions that are safe, effective and specifically tailored to your needs.

FACE: Dermatology Consultants offers facials, chemical peels, and other treatments that are safe and specifically formulated for darker skin. Click here for more information on our facial treatments.

LASER HAIR REMOVAL: Due to recent advances in technology, we have the most advanced FDA approved laser based hair reduction for all skin types. Click here for more information about our unique laser hair removal system.

HAIR GROWTH/SCALP TREATMENTS: Alopecia/hair loss affects all races, genders and ages. It is especially common among black women. Once work up is complete and specific diagnosis of the type of alopecia rendered, non-surgical solutions that may include oral & topical treatments, minimally invasive microneedling, PRP and exosome injections can be recommended. Click here for more information about options for hair growth and scalp treatments.

KELOID TREATMENTS: When skin is injured, in some cases extra scar tissue grows, forming smooth, hard growths called keloids. People with darker skin tones are more prone to keloids. The most common locations are the earlobes, chest, back and arms. Read about our treatment offers here. And learn about our newest treatment option that completes surgical removal of keloids. SRT (Superficial Radiation Therapy) allows superior post-surgical healing and prevents keloid recurrence.

MOLE REMOVALS/BENIGN GROWTHS/SKIN TAGS/DPNs: It is common to see adults of color with multiple small hyperpigmented dots on the face that resemble raised dark brown or black freckles. These are called dermatosis papulose nigra (DPNs). They are often referred to as moles, and in fact are non-cancerous lesions. Click here for more information about our treatments.

ACNE TREATMENTS/FOLLICULITIS: Acne can occur in any skin type. Because of potential significant hyperpigmentation and scarring that may follow acne breakouts, DC providers advocate prevention and comprehensive aggressive treatment with oral and topical medications, as well as chemical peels, lasers, microneedling and a unique laser for acne – Aviclear. Click here to learn more information about these treatments.
