A New Technology for Regrowing Hair

September 25, 2019

Many men have made a great success out of being bald. For a fortunate few, it became a trademark. Embracing the look is possibly even more popular today than ever, as razors find they’re not just for whiskers anymore. And yet, many men – perhaps most – would rather return to the frame their hairline gave their face and to the signal of virile vitality that hair represents.

Women, too, discover that thinning hair is not exclusive to men. And their options for addressing it might seem even more limited. Now there’s good news for both women and men who’d like to see their hair growing again. It comes from a proven source, and yet one that was perhaps not anticipated.

Microneedling has proved its worth since the 1990s for refreshing skin tone and firmness, erasing fine lines, and removing scars and blemishes by stimulating collagen production in the skin. As an anti-aging treatment, the basic mode of application has produced gratifying results for skin rejuvenation.

Now that same fundamental technology, in a refined application called SkinPen, is being used to regrow hair. In fact, a study in the International Journal of Trichology reported that the method can be used to promote absorption of products such as minoxidil or corticosteroids and even induce stem cells in the scalp that lead to hair growth.

How SkinPen Works

Your aesthetics professional uses the SkinPen applicator to introduce the selected hair growth compounds into specific layers or strata of the skin, where they can have the most favorable effect. The skin’s response to the introduction of these tiny channels is to produce more collagen and fibers. The tissue surrounding each hair follicle strengthens and circulation improves.

The controlled micro-incursions of the SkinPen prompt a three-phase response from the skin:

  1. Inflammation: The tiny SkinPen incursions trigger your immune system to remove debris, increase blood flow, and begin creating new tissue.
  2. Proliferation: The skin around the incursions is rebuilt with new granulation cells, and the network of blood vessels is increased.
  3. Remodeling: The response adds up to new dermal tissues and blood vessels.

This natural response to the stimulation of SkinPen, plus the hair growth solution or compound you select in consultation with your aesthetics professional, offers a new kind of response to treatment – and one that 90% of patients who have tried it would recommend to family and friends.
